Browlift Before and After Photos
Brow lifts, also referred to as forehead lifts, are most commonly performed in men and women 40 to 60 years of age. It is primarily designed to correct the position of sagging brows, lessen or eliminate the appearance of the deep forehead creases, and lessen or eliminate the lines between the eyebrows. One of the most common complaints of a patient seeking a brow lift is that they constantly have a tired or sad appearance. It is not unusual that the eyebrows contribute to the appearance of excess upper eyelid skin. Often times, I combine the brow lift and upper lid blepharoplasty to produce rejuvenation of the area around the eyes. It is an extremely effective procedure when the brows have descended below their normal position.
Your Browlift Consultation
The first step for every patient considering a brow lift is consultation with the surgeon. I use this time to define your goals and assess your emotional and physical health. I will also gather information pertinent to your undergoing a surgical procedure such as past and present medical conditions, previous surgical procedures and medications you are presently taking. It is not uncommon that after your examination that other procedures may be suggested in order to meet your appearance goals. Eyelid surgery and facelift procedures, for example, are frequently combined with the brow lift.
Browlift Procedure Overview
There are many different techniques to lift the brows. This depends on the patient's condition, your surgeon's preferred technique and the type of results you are trying to achieve. The coronal incision extends across the top of the scalp concealed within the hairline. Occasionally, this incision is placed along the hairline. My preference is the limited-incision technique. This technique uses incisions near the temples to lift the drooping eyebrows. This limits some of the potential side effects attributed to the coronal incision such as numbness and hypersensitivity of the scalp. Once again, each patient is different and through your consultation, it can be determined what the best approach is for you.
Although complications are unusual, it is one of the most important aspects of the consultation. You need to be informed of the risks and understand the expectations from having this type of procedure. Remember, carefully following your preoperative and postoperative instructions are important in minimizing complications and optimizing your results.
What to Expect with Browlift Surgery
The procedure, when done, alone may be performed as an outpatient, although I encourage patients to stay overnight. When combined with either a facelift or eyelid surgery, I require that the patient stay overnight. Typically, you will have some light dressings around your head and sometimes none at all. I find that most patients do not experience a great deal of pain with this procedure but pain medications will be provided to you.
The swelling will be the main result in the initial days following surgery. Resting quietly with your head elevated is the best thing for you to do in the first 5-7 days. After 10- 14 days, the bruising and swelling will begin to improve. You will be able to wear make-up to conceal any discoloration. Your energy level should begin to return to normal after 2 weeks. Stitches or staples are usually removed between 2-3 weeks. Generally by 3 weeks, most patients are able to return to their preoperative activities.
I constantly remind patients that you will see some immediate changes but that the final results usually take 3-6 months. The results are rarely permanent and vary widely from patient to patient. A number of factors including lifestyle and heredity play a role in how long the results will last.
